Trickle-down Tyranny in DuPage County

- by Deanna Spingola ©, 21 October 2007

OSI The front group, Project for the New American Century was not the first fear mongering group to arrogantly promote "American world leadership" by military force. Almost a hundred years ago the Trustees of the Carnegie Endowment decided that the most effective scheme to launch an entire society into socialism is war. In 1909, they considered methods of involving America in a war and concluded that they must control the State Department, the diplomatic machinery and ultimately education.1 Natural repugnance would compel reflective Americans to oppose warfare, a moral obligation. Given our history since 1945, the greedy, amoral elite who surreptitiously run this country have been enormously successful - America developed a predictable propensity for serial warfare. The public, swayed by a group-think, flag-waving, false allegiance mentality, has become anesthetized to the bloody, reprehensible realities of war wherein governments have senselessly slaughtered millions of people in the name of peace.

There are reasons people support war - our government "leaders" resort to perpetual lying. A regular "department of lying" was established under Woodrow Wilson in April 1917 but abolished by Congress in June 1919.2 Truman created the Office of War Information. Lying was further perfected under actor Ronald Reagan with the Office of Public Diplomacy to disseminate "white" and "black" lies and "smear" truth-telling journalists. "Replace Communism with al-Qaeda," manipulate yet another puppet president and the federal fantasies continue.3 Currently, we have the Office of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs under the U.S. Department of State4 whose Under Secretary is Karen Hughes, confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 2005. She has been a close Bush advisor/handler since he acted as governor of Texas.5

Another propaganda-spewing machine was the Office of Strategic Influence (OSI) calculatingly created after 9/11 by the Department of War to "influence the hearts and minds of the opposition." This agency followed the Pentagon guidelines of "information deception, deliberately spreading false or misleading information, a part of the information warfare policy and doctrine."6 They planted false stories in the foreign press which suspiciously ended up in the U.S. news services, assisted by foreign operatives. Media watchdogs7 howled and got the agency shut down four months after it was organized. Second time Secretary of War Donald H. Rumsfeld (1975-1977)8 simply reorganized the agency as the Office of Strategic Communication (OSC), same policy, slight change of name.910 Then there's the White House Office of Global Communications created by Bush's executive order to fabricate a better image overseas so foreigners who justifiably "hate us" will welcome military occupation when they inevitably become the target?

Donald H. Rumsfeld was an original member of the Project for the New American Century and signed their "Statement of Principles." Rumsfeld "called in his markers" and got the poison aspartame approved when he headed the multinational Searle Company.11 Clearly, Rumsfeld and his complicit cronies demonstrate total disregard for the lives of others - soldiers, citizens or foreigners.

The Pentagon has paid the Rendon Group, a Washington Public Relations firm, more than $56 million dollars to misconstrue reality since September 11, 2001. Rendon also "assisted" a number of U.S. military interventions in Argentina, Colombia, Haiti, Iraq, Kosovo, Panama and Zimbabwe. Closely connected to the chaos-creating CIA, Rendon provides the propaganda to convince and convert the general population. They also have provided vanquished victims with American flags to hype the "liberator" illusion for American audiences.12 "Propaganda is the single greatest controlling force in the world; as a tool for persuasion, it is far more powerful than any weapon of violence could ever be; propaganda is absolutely essential to establishing a tyrannical regime."13

Additionally, during the last six years, the Department of War has paid millions of taxpayer dollars, to their favorite firms, to develop news articles, create TV commercials and engineer Internet pop-up ads to micro-manage public perceptions. Hey, the next time you see the "veteran" in that wheel chair or the Marine on top of the mountain slaying the fiery dragon - its just more hype - compliments of your tax dollars and the Ministry of Lies. The War Department works with the Joint Psychological Operations Support Element of the U.S. Special Operations Command. "PsyOps" targets surviving foreign populaces to "encourage cooperation" (submission) with U.S. forces.14

The government has achieved enormous success and we deemed them totally incompetent! With their massive proliferation of deception, no wonder citizens are understandably ignorant about what our "leaders" are doing in our name. To be trite - "ignorance is bliss." Unless, of course, the uninformed have guns, badges, tasers and the plundered political power to intimidate, arrest and incarcerate well-informed citizens. Tyranny starts at the top and trickles down! Could Congress be that ill informed? All but one of the current presidential hopefuls follows the party line, despite partisan affiliation; are they also indoctrinated or acquiescent and well-paid? The Constitution is continually ignored, especially by those who solemnly swore to uphold it. Feigned ignorance, nay treasonous disregard for the Constitution is every "elected" official's stock political position.

However, there are many very astute citizens who have evaluated circumstances and then have the courage to take action. Two such audacious individuals are Jeff Zurawski (39) and Sarah M. Hartfield (45) of DuPage County, Illinois. On May 6, 2007 they displayed a homemade 12-by-4-foot banner with the words "Impeach Bush & Cheney - Liars" on a pedestrian bridge, the Great Western Trail overpass on I-355 near Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

Additionally, they displayed the traditional distress signal, an upside down American flag. With hoards of illegals crossing our borders (importation of cheap labor), an almost $10 trillion dollar deficit, the secretive merging of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico into the North American Union, a deteriorating infrastructure, outsourced jobs, a diminishing tax-poor middle class, the egregious dumping of tons of depleted uranium in Afghanistan and Iraq, the slaughter of 1,087,537 Iraqis since the unconstitutional invasion of Iraq in 2003, and a silent main stream media about the entire scenario, Sarah and Jeff justifiably recognize that this country is, in fact, in deep distress.

After freeway blogging for about ninety minutes, an Illinois State Trooper stopped and politely asked them to remove the sign and flag. They respectfully complied. If they had broken a law, he would have cited them. Then three DuPage County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on the scene. One immediately-angry Deputy accused them of throwing items from the bridge which would have been difficult given the eight foot high chain link fence. The Deputy "took issue" with the upside down flag. "His face got blood red," Sarah Hartfield said. "He was yelling that he was a veteran and we were disrespecting his son who was in Afghanistan." Hartfield told him she "lost a cousin in Iraq and that their protest was aimed at the Bush administration, not at the troops."15

"According to Zurawski, the deputy said he 'wasn't going to let his personal opinion affect his professional duty,' but before leaving he stated that he was going to do 'everything in his power to have us arrested.'"16 The Deputy vowed that he would call Joseph Birkett, the DuPage County States Attorney. Sarah and Jeff were then released without a citation. If they were guilty of a crime, they would have been arrested - according to police procedure.

It took almost three weeks and obviously some legal gymnastics to concoct charges to prosecute this pair for their political views. On May 25, 2007, Jeff was arrested at his home and escorted to the DuPage County Jail in handcuffs where he spent seven hours in custody. Sarah verified that a warrant had been issued and turned herself in. She was unnecessarily handcuffed and taken into custody. Both were charged with "disorderly conduct," a misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

This fallacious charge states that the defendants knowingly "staged a war protest" without a county permit on the Great Western Trail causing a "traffic disturbance" because "unknown objects" were thrown onto the expressway and the American flag was being displayed upside down. No law prohibits displaying the flag upside down! There was no traffic disturbance unless it was the one created by the two patrol cars and their flashing red lights - now that really disturbs traffic!

DuPage County States Attorney Joseph Birkett, an aspiring politician well-known for previous prosecutions of innocent people,17 later added two additional charges: "reckless conduct" and "unauthorized display of sign." These misdemeanor charges are punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2500 fine.

The "reckless conduct" states that the defendants endangered the bodily safety of motorists by throwing debris onto the roadway from the overpass. Common sense would dictate that two responsible adults would not jeopardize their significant message by immature, irresponsible behavior. They, in fact, did not throw anything on the roadway. The Illinois State Trooper who first arrived on the scene didn't ask Sarah or Jeff for identification and he had not received any complaints about traffic disturbances or items being thrown from the bridge.

According to the law, it is unlawful to display a sign, signal, marking or device which purports to be or resembles an official traffic-control device or railroad sign. This law was sufficiently mangled for political expediency and applied to Jeff and Sarah - the "unauthorized display of a sign." Supposedly the flag interfered with traffic movement. Who, besides the angry Deputy, witnessed this "interference?" A Bush/Cheney impeachment plea does not resemble any official sign. To be sure, Bush/Cheney impeachment pleas on all traffic signs would be extraordinary; perhaps Congress would then do their job. Extensive evidence for a Bush/Cheney impeachment is agonizingly available. The elite-controlled Congress simply fails to act.

The jury trial scheduled for Monday, October 15, 2007 was canceled. Birkett, who is charged with protecting Constitutional rights, dismissed the "reckless conduct" but not the original "disorderly conduct" charge. There is a new "disorderly conduct" charge resulting from the allegations of truck driver, Charles Hardin, who claims he saw Zurawski "make a throwing motion and an object hit the roadway." Another hearing is scheduled for December 13, 2007 before Judge Ronald Sutter. Perhaps it will result in a trial if the case is not dismissed.18 Whatever happens, the stigma of criminal prosecution remains long after the charges are dropped.

The new official complaint states that the said Defendant acted in such an unreasonable manner as to alarm and disturb Charles Hardin, and provoke the breach of the peace in that said defendant or one for whose conduct he is legally responsible, stood on an overpass above highway I-355 and made a throwing motion in the direction of vehicles traveling on I-355." If you live in DuPage County and your neighbor scowls at you, or uses a hand gesture, or Heaven forbid, makes a throwing motion, or even thinks of doing any of those things, just call Joe Birkett at (630) 407-8000. If you live elsewhere in the United (Police) States, call the States Attorney for your area. Examples are surely being sought to intimidate others who question "authority." Apparently, Bush's "free speech zones" are now arbitrarily in operation throughout the nation, a sure sign of tyranny.

Back to the impeachment issue - House Speaker Pelosi is also impeachable (click on word letter) for numerous reasons. But after lunching with Bush, she took his impeachment "off the table." That impeachment "promise" was just political rhetoric (lies). Under her jurisdiction, the House could block war funding. Pelosi is just another big corporate stock holder19 politician favoring the AIPAC, big corporations, and special interests that promote socialism. She apparently does not favor the Constitution, a trait she shares with Bush. So it was a toss-up between the voters and Pelosi's portfolio. Guess what she chose!

Pelosi recently said: "We have to make responsible decisions in the Congress that are not driven by the dissatisfaction of anybody who wants the war to end tomorrow." She credited activists for their "passion" but called it "a waste of time" for them to target Democrats. "They are advocates," she said. "We are leaders."20 The elite "deciders" will decide America's future and when it is time for Americans to stop spilling their blood to enrich Blackwater, Halliburton, Bechtel, and others; meanwhile, keep enlisting! It will supplement the higher-paid, better-equipped, unaccountable Blackwater mercenaries.

So, are Sarah and Jeff and thousands of other courageous activists just wasting their time because decisions have already been made? "War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses."21

The First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." The government, an artificial entity, was established by the people to protect their God-given rights. The government did not, through the Constitution, grant "rights." Rather, the Constitution prohibits the government from seizing individual rights.

"Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place."22

The law and subservient state police powers have been steadily transformed from their approved purpose to serve "an entirely contrary purpose!" The law now supports a police power that serves as the state's weapon. Instead of safeguarding individual rights, the "collective organization" itself is guilty by reason of intimidation, abuse and brutality.23

The exercise of free speech precludes anti-war sentiments or characterizes such as unpatriotic. It is discouraged and frequently prosecuted by constitutionally-challenged court officials and emboldened, over-zealous policemen. Black is white, truth is deception, war is peace, ignorance is strength and law-abiding citizens are arrested while criminals remain in office.

"It's ironic," Zurawski said. "I peacefully protest against our criminally dishonest leaders and wind up in jail falsely accused of a crime that doesn't exist because of someone else's lies."24 Jeff has said: "I'm kind of a spontaneous person; I will without a doubt be back on that bridge exercising the First Amendment."

Jeff, Sarah, Activists everywhere: "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism."25 Protest on October 27, 2007!
