Ancient Order Knights of Malta, Militia to the Pope, Seeks New Blood

ROME (AP) — Matthew Festing — aka His Most Eminent Highness The Prince and Grand Master of the Knights of Malta — bounds into the sitting room of his magnificent Renaissance palazzo sweaty and somewhat disheveled, and asks an aide if he should take off his sweater to be photographed.

Garrulous and self-effacing, Festing embodies some of the paradoxes of a fabled Catholic religious order that dates from the medieval Crusades: Steeped in European nobility and mystique, the order’s mission is humility and charity — running hospitals, ambulance services and old folks’ homes around the globe. It has many trappings of a country, printing its own stamps, coins, license plates and passports, and yet — a stateless state — it rules over no territory.

‘Caravaggio and the Knights of Malta’ discussed in Washington DC

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 - by Terry Melanson

(November 05, 2008) The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, hosted the illustrated symposium ‘Caravaggio and the Knights of Malta: a 400-Year Perspective’ on 24 October. The meeting was attended by art experts and aficionados and by a sizeable contingent of American-based Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Prof. David M. Stone of the University of Delaware’s Art History Department, organised the symposium to celebrate the quadricentennial of Caravaggio’s historic visit to Malta (1607-1608). He underlined that “Caravaggio made some of his greatest works in Malta, including his largest and only signed painting, ‘The Beheading of St John the Baptist’ (1608), painted for the Oratory of San Giovanni Decollato in the Annex of St John’s Co-Cathedral.”

Three internationally known Caravaggio scholars presented new research on the artist: Prof. David M. Stone (University of Delaware), Prof. Catherine Puglisi (Rutgers University), and Prof. Keith Sciberras (University of Malta).

A magnificent heraldic, illuminated and calligraphic manuscript book of the coats of arms of the Supreme Pontiffs from Innocent III to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

In 2007 renowned heraldic artist, Andrew Jamieson had an idea to produce a book. A magnificent, monumental vellum codex, showing the coats of arms of all the Popes from Innocent III to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, Gloriosamente Regnante. The book (The Saint Peter Codex) will be in three sections. The first will contain title, and dedication pages, prayers and a chapter on the traditions of heraldry in the Catholic Church. In addition he co-founded the Scottish Organs Trust and was also well known as a vigorous opponent of the wearing of white socks with kilts.

Movers and Shakers of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta

Thursday, September 4th, 2008 - by Terry Melanson

All I can say is … save it to your hardrive! (via TruthSeeker24’s anti-N.W.O. corner)

Much like the Pilgrims Society, skillfully researched by Charles Savoie and Joël van der Reijden, the Knights of Malta’s membership is secret (i.e., you can’t just give ‘em a call and ask politely for a list of members). Thus, to confirm who is or isn’t a member of these elite cabals is quite the undertaking. The above research (or data dump) into the Knights of Malta is not nearly as thoroughgoing as Reijden or Savoie, but nonetheless it’s a start. And I certainly appreciate the undertaking.

When someone dies some of their secret affiliations are revealed in the obituary. Until then, however, various other means are required in order to establish membership as a certainty: reporters sometimes let things slip; memoirs are written with revealing admissions; or, even if the obit omits, sometimes the family donates to some prestigious learning institute a large collection of papers and archives from their dearly-departed patriarch.
