Buyer Beware: Climate Change and GHG Regulations

A well-researched article on climate-change-hysteria collusion between the Club of Rome and Bren School of Environmental Science and Management.

Global Cooling Headed Our Way

Monday, January 19th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Philip V. Brennan - January 13, 2009

Excuse me while I gloat, but it’s fun to say I told you so.

Americans are surprised to learn that President-elect Obama’s choice to be his global warming czar, one Carol Browner, was listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group’s Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for “global governance” and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change, according to the Washington Times.

A global warming militant a socialist? How can that be? Well, it can be because the whole purpose of the AGW scam is nothing less than a covert movement to create a world socialist order.

The fact that the woman Barack Obama chose to oversee the effort to combat the global warming fantasy appears to be a believer in the socialist doctrine should come as no surprise — I warned that the hidden motivation of whole climate change scam is the creation world socialist order 12 years ago. Nobody listened.

Green Machinations and Commissar Vanishings

Saturday, January 10th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Terry Melanson | Conspiracy Archive (2009/01/10)

Paul Joseph Watson wrote a story yesterday about the discovery that Carol Browner, Obama’s Energy Czar, is involved with Socialist International.

Browner, reports The Baltimore Examiner, “is a member of the Commission for a Sustainable World Society (CSWS), which is a formal organ of the Socialist International. Oddly enough, the group’s web site was recently scrubbed to remove Browner’s picture and biography, but her name is still listed next to the photo-biographies of her 14 colleagues on the commission. The Socialist International is no group of woolly-headed idealists. It is an influential assembly of officials from across the international community whose official Statement of Principles describes an agenda of gaining and exercising government power based on socialist concepts.”

Here’s the relevant (socialistinternational.org) webpage as it looks now; and here, as it looked only a few days ago.

The Heritage Foundation blogged about it on Jan. 7th. They compared the Browner scrubbing to similar “Commissar Vanishings” by Stalin in Communist Russia.

The Dangers of Disputing Warming Orthodoxy

Saturday, January 10th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

David Gordon - 1/8/2009

[Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed By Christopher C. Horner. Regnery, 2008. Viii + 407 pages. An audio version of this review, read by Dr. Floy Lilley, is available as a free MP3 download.]

Those of us who refuse to accept calls from proponents of global warming for drastic restrictions on production often confront objections like this:

You skeptics, blinded by fanatical devotion to the free market, ignore evidence. True enough, you can trot out a few scientists who agree with you. But the overwhelming majority of climate scientists view man-made global warming as a great threat to the world. The course of inaction you urge on us threatens the earth with disaster.

Christopher Horner’s excellent book provides a convincing response to this all-too-frequent complaint.

But how can it do so? Will not an “anti-global-warming” book of necessity consist of an account of scientists who dissent from the consensus? If so, will it not fall victim to the difficulty raised in our imagined objection? The book will pick a few favored experts to back up a preconceived political agenda.

Horner strikes at the root of this objection: it rests on a false premise. Contrary to what our objection assumes, there is in fact no consensus of scientists behind global-warming alarmism…

Notes for Sofia: The EU, Global Warming and the Current Economic Turmoil

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 - by Terry Melanson

Václav Klaus - December 10, 2008

Thank you for the invitation to come here again. I remember quite vividly the positive atmosphere here, in the same hall, a few years ago. I was here in November 2004 – just after the Czech Republic’s EU accession – and spoke about the EU. A lot has changed since that time. Bulgaria entered the EU and by now has certainly made its own first experiences with the membership. I assume (and hope) your expectations were not excessive and didn’t cause a big expectations-reality gap to arise.

I am visiting your country in the moment of our preparations for the EU presidency which we take seriously and will be able – I am sure – to organize it in a standard way. I would also like to say very explicitly that for us the EU membership has no alternative. Recent, rather insensitive reactions to some of our views on the Lisbon Treaty, which were coming from the old EU countries, reminded us – to my great regret – of our non-democratic past. We both – the Czechs and the Bulgarians – have to insist that no one is the owner of the EU, not to speak of Europe.

The world has never seen such freezing heat

Friday, November 21st, 2008 - by Terry Melanson

Christopher Booker - 16/11/2008

A surreal scientific blunder last week raised a huge question mark about the temperature records that underpin the worldwide alarm over global warming. On Monday, Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore’s chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record.

This was startling. Across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China’s official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its “worst snowstorm ever”. In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years.

So what explained the anomaly? GISS’s computerised temperature maps seemed to show readings across a large part of Russia had been up to 10 degrees higher than normal. But when expert readers of the two leading warming-sceptic blogs, Watts Up With That and Climate Audit, began detailed analysis of the GISS data they made an astonishing discovery. The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running.

Evidence of sunspot involvement in climate change compelling

Saturday, November 1st, 2008 - by Terry Melanson

Engineering News - Oct 31, 2008

Over the last few years, the evidence that sunspots on our sun are directly related to climate change on earth has been steadily increasing.

I explained the exact proposed mechanism in some detail previously. Great work in this field is being carried out by Dr Henrik Svensmark and coworkers in Denmark and elsewhere.

Briefly, the mechanism is that cosmic rays impact on the earth from deep space. These cosmic rays penetrate our atmosphere and lead to the formation of cloud cover. The cosmic rays nucleate sites in the atmosphere, from which clouds form from the natural water vapour.

If one puts a spoonful of coffee powder into a cup of microwaved water, the water forms bubbles of foam on the coffee grains. This is basically the same principle as the cosmic rays forming clouds in the atmosphere.

Current Global Warming Alarmism and the Mont Pelerin Society’s Long Term Agenda

Monday, September 15th, 2008 - by Terry Melanson

Václav Klaus - 8.9.2008

(1) I think I have to start with expressing my deep and ever-deeper conviction that the recently created panic as regards dramatic, in the past allegedly unknown global climate changes and their supposedly catastrophic consequences for the future of human civilization must not remain without a resolute answer of the – until now – more or less silent majority of rationally thinking people, especially classical liberals, libertarians and other freedom loving men and women. Not everyone is silent but the current dominance of climate alarmism practically in the whole world can’t be disputed.

Many of us know (or at least should know) that this panic doesn’t have a solid ground, that it has not been set off by rational arguments, that it demonstrates an apparent disregard of the past experience of mankind, and that its substance is not science. It is based, on the contrary, on the abuse of science by a non-liberal, extremely authoritarian, freedom and prosperity despising (and destroying) ideology which I, together with many others, call environmentalism.
