EU commissioners attend ’secret’ Bilderberg summits on expenses

Thursday, September 27th, 2012 - by Terry Melanson

Justin Stares - 06 September 2012

If European commissioners attend the Bilderberg ’shadow world government’ events at the taxpayers’ expense, doesn’t the public have a right to know what goes on behind the closed doors? PublicServiceEurope.com dissects the commissioners’ latest expenses claims, including first-class flights

European Commissioners who attended the latest meeting of the secretive Bilderberg group have been accused of double standards for refusing to reveal any details of what was said during the seminars while charging the taxpayer more than €4,000 each to cover their expenses. Spanish Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia put in an expenses bill of €4,322 following the four-day meeting in the American state of Virginia - which brought together political leaders, the private sector and royalty in what has been dubbed a ’shadow world government’.

Meanwhile, the expenses of Dutch European Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes totalled €4,167, while the expenses of Belgian Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht came to a mere €980 as he combined attendance at the May event with a separate trip to Washington. The figures were revealed by the commission itself in response to a parliamentary question by Philip Claeys, a Belgian MEP who wanted to know if the bureaucrats were attending as private individuals or as representatives of the European Union. According to the event’s official website “participants attend Bilderberg in a private and not an official capacity”, although according to commission president Jose Manuel Barroso the three were indeed representing the Brussels executive. Responding to Claey’s question, Barroso said that “the travel expenses incurred were paid by the commission, as for any mission”.

Revealed: Life behind the scenes at the secretive Bilderberg conference

Documents sent to attendees, including Michael Noonan, outlining the culture of the high-powered and confidential meetings.

thejournal.ie - 14/08/12

IT IS ONE of the world’s most secretive and high-powered groups – bringing together figures from the political, financial, diplomatic, corporate and media worlds in a confidential four-day conference discussing all manner of sensitive topics.

Today, TheJournal.ie can shine a light on some of the inner workings of the Bilderberg conference – an annual meeting where the world’s most powerful and influential people meet to discuss the shape of the world and what can be done to improve it.

Documents obtained under Freedom of Information legislation reveal the full agenda of the 2012 meeting, which counted Ireland’s Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, among its attendees.

They also provide previously unconfirmed details about the protocol and nature of the invite-only event – the secrecy of which often prompts accusations that the group’s ultimate task is either the advance of capitalism worldwide, or the formation of a unified global government.

He was actually listed as attending the 2009 and 2010 conferences. Although no one managed to capture a photograph of him in 2009, his mug was published by the Guardian at the 2010 conference in Spain.

Annotated Bilderberg 2012 Member List

Saturday, July 7th, 2012 - by Terry Melanson

Exactly what is needed for research purposes. Save it to your hardrive.

The 2012 members list released by the Bilderbergers is most remarkable for what it does not mention. The incoming chairman runs one of the biggest insurance companies in the world. Many members own banks. Europe requires banks and insurance companies to buy toxic national bonds. Wouldn’t it be nice if Ben Bernanke would print up 10 or 20 trillion dollars and swap out toxic assets for international bonds. Kevin Warsh who is listed as a college professor is a former member of the Bush Plunge Protection team and a member of the Federal Reserve Board. Warsh is highly recommended by his friend Bernanke. That is good news for billionaires but might not be good news for you.

Charlie Skelton’s reporting on Bilderberg

He’s matured on the subject in the last couple of years; still humorous, yet informed with facts, historical perspective, critique of the mainstream, and well-argued “conspiracy theory” apologetics.

Bilderberg: Upper Echelon of the Interlocking Transnational Power Elite

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011 - by Terry Melanson

Of all the formal and informal transnational policy forums and networks, one group, Bilderberg, is considered to be the most exclusive and private. With the regular attendance of recognisable power brokers, and the longstanding support of notable European royalty, Bilderberg continues to attract select participants from the upper transatlantic echelons of business, politics, media, academia, and prestigious policy institutes. Given that Bilderberg attendees are frequently active in numerous other elite transnational groups and forums, they are able to provide a unique perspective of the purpose and effects of such activity and the significance of interconnections between elite communities and networks. – Ian Richardson

Terry Melanson (15/06/11)

You may be surprised to learn that, when describing the Bilderberg Group, the only real difference in language between conspiracy theorists and academics is the degree to which hyperbole is used. By contrast, so-called journalists in the mainstream media engage in mocking the messenger. It is therefore much more productive to concentrate on the former.

As many have learned already, a new book on the Bilderberg Group has recently been published: Bilderberg People: Elite Power and Consensus in World Affairs by Ian Richardson, Andrew Kakabadse, Nada Kakabadse. (See below for a short video by the authors) Although I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, I came across a PhD thesis by one of its authors, Ian Richardson. In fact, it was this preliminary study that eventually led to the book. Richardson’s supervising professor for the thesis was his soon-to-be co-author Andrew P. Kakabadse.

“The dynamics of third dimensional power in determining a pre-orientation to policymaking: an exploratory study of transnational elite interactions in the post-Cold War period” (2009), studies the power elite networks and their influence on government and finance – the Bilderberg in particular.

Richardson managed to score interviews with a number of attendees as well, and convinced them to speak about it for the first time – under the rubric of the Chatham House Rule, of course.

What you don’t know about the Bilderberg Group

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011 - by Terry Melanson

Thierry Meyssan - 9 May 2011

The idea that the Bilderberg Group is behind the creation of a mysterious future World Government has been spreading for years. Having had access to the archives of this very secret club, Thierry Meyssan shows that this belief leads in a false direction, serving to mask the true identity and function of the Group. In reality, the Bilderberg Group is a creation of NATO. It aims to influence key leaders on a global scale and, through them, to manipulate public opinion to get it to embrace the ideas and actions of the Northern Atlantic Alliance.

Every year since 1954, over one hundred of the most prominent personalities of Western Europe and North America meet - behind closed doors and under maximum security - within the Bilderberg Group. This exclusive seminar lasts for three days and almost nothing of the debates filters to the outside world.

Since the breakup of the Soviet Union, numerous journalists have taken an interest in this secretive, elitist organization. Certain authors have seen it as the beginning of a World Government, responsible for the major political, cultural, economic and military decisions of the second half of the twentieth century. This interpretation has also been voiced by Fidel Castro, but it has never been confirmed nor invalidated by any solid facts.

In order to find out what the Bilderberg Group is or isn’t, I searched for documents and first hand witnesses. I obtained access to all of its records for the period 1954-1966 and numerous later documents, and I was able to talk with a former participant that I’ve known for years. No other journalist to date, including the authors who have popularized today’s stereotypes, has had access to this wealth of internal documents of the Bilderberg Group.

Here’s what I discovered…

Bilderberg to Meet in Switzerland

Saturday, March 26th, 2011 - by Terry Melanson

James P. Tucker Jr. - (Issue # 13, March 28, 2011)

The shadowy group known as Bilderberg will be gathering this year for its annual meeting at the resort city of St. Moritz, in southeastern Switzerland, June 9-12, but they will have a lot of company. St. Moritz is a short distance from Davos, the site of the regular high-priced meeting of thousands of bankers, political leaders and other notables called the World Economic Forum. But unlike at Davos, where the press is always welcome, Bilderberg still tries to maintain absolute secrecy.

Bilderberg has met in Switzerland four times over the years but never in the same city. Normally, when their sibling in crime, the Trilateral Commission (TC), meets in North America, Bilderberg does, too. This year, the TC will meet in Washington on April 8 to 10, but the Bilderbergers are avoiding the United States, in what may be an effort to fool the press.

Bilderberg has been called the most exclusive and secretive club in the world. To be admitted, you have to own a multinational bank, a multinational corporation or a country. Since its first meeting in 1953, it has been attended by the top powerbrokers, financial minds and world leaders.

“Cold and cunning: Van Rompuy’s true face”

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 - by Terry Melanson

David Cronin - 14 March 2011

Conspiracy theorists make me laugh. So when I’m in need of comic relief, I occasionally check out the website of Jim Corr, knowing that its contents are a lot more entertaining than the music of his banal pop group The Corrs. For a number of years, Corr has been spouting pseudo-scientific gobbledegook in an attempt to persuade the gullible that man-made global warming is a hoax and that the collapse of the World Trade Centre wasn’t actually caused by the planes flown into it.

Just because conspiracy theorists are nearly always wrong doesn’t mean everything they say should be dismissed. A dedicated bunch of researchers and bloggers have made it their task to follow the activities of the Bilderberg Group, that bunch of businessmen and politicians which meets in top secrecy on an annual basis. Some of these researchers – like the Italian MEP Mario Borghezio – belong to the extreme-right and should be denounced as racist opportunists. Yet while warnings about the Bilberbergers wanting to create a new world government might be far-fetched, there are solid reasons to be wary of what they are up to. Any club of the wealthy and powerful which seeks to avoid scrutiny is by definition a threat to democracy. And so it is correct that questions were asked about why Herman Van Rompuy dined at a Bilderberg event near Brussels shortly before he was appointed the first full-time president of the European Council in November 2009. If nothing else, his attendance at the exclusive gathering indicates he is more eager to please Goldman Sachs and Shell than the 500 million mere mortals who live in the EU.

Global Cooling and the New World Order

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010 - by Terry Melanson

James Delingpole - September 26th, 2010

Bilderberg. Whether you believe it’s part of a sinister conspiracy which will lead inexorably to one world government or whether you think it’s just an innocent high-level talking shop, there’s one thing that can’t be denied: it knows which way the wind is blowing. (Hat tips: Will/NoIdea/Ozboy)

At its June meeting in Sitges, Spain (unreported and held in camera, as is Bilderberg’s way), some of the world’s most powerful CEOs rubbed shoulders with notable academics and leading politicians. They included: the chairman of Fiat, the Irish Attorney General Paul Gallagher, the US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke, Henry Kissinger, Bill Gates, Dick Perle, the Queen of the Netherlands, the editor of the Economist…. Definitely not Z-list, in other words.

Which is what makes one particular item on the group’s discussion agenda so tremendously significant. See if you can spot the one I mean:

The 58th Bilderberg Meeting will be held in Sitges, Spain 3 – 6 June 2010. The Conference will deal mainly with Financial Reform, Security, Cyber Technology, Energy, Pakistan, Afghanistan, World Food Problem, Global Cooling, Social Networking, Medical Science, EU-US relations.

Yep, that’s right. Global Cooling.
