Another One-Sided, Deceitful Piece of Leftist Propaganda: Michael Moore’s Latest Movie Mocking American Capitalism

Dr. Ted Baehr and Dr. Tom Snyder - September 26th, 2009

If only he would use his talent for goodness instead of evil!

That is a paraphrased comic statement that Secret Agent Maxwell Smart often used to describe some of the super-villains he faced on the TV spy show GET SMART in the 1960s. The same statement may be applied to Michael Moore, the filmmaking darling of the Left who has made another polemical documentary, CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY, this time calling for the replacement of America’s capitalist system with a socialist system, including, of course, pro-communist proposals to share all wealth or profits equally.

A talented filmmaker, Moore begins his latest movie by discussing the post-war economic boom in the United States in the 1950s and early 60s. After showing the consumerism that captivated many Americans during those times, and the riches that came to the leaders of industry and the wealthy bankers and brokers on Wall Street, he cuts to a shot of President Jimmy Carter during the late 1970s sadly complaining about the “greed” and “materialism” of America. Then, in a mocking tone, Moore says Ronald Reagan came riding into the White House, but that Reagan and his Treasury Secretary, Donald Reagan, formerly of Merrill Lynch, designed policies that hurt blue collar workers and encouraged Americans to borrow too much money so they could buy homes and modern luxuries, while the “fatcats” on Wall Street got richer and richer.

Interspersed within this somewhat biased history lesson, Moore describes the economic “meltdown” that occurred last year. While putting all the blame on bankers, mortgage lenders and financial institutions who, he says, corrupt the politicians in Washington, Moore visits several families and workers harmed by the economic collapse. Included among these scenes are people whose mortgages have been foreclosed, a family that is defiantly still living in its foreclosed home, and workers in Chicago who took action when their company suddenly went bankrupt and refused to pay the workers what it apparently still owed them.

  1. Reggie Greene / The Logistician Says:

    Here’s a thumbnail of what it takes, in my view, for a society to be prosperous:

    1) An inventive / innovative class; people have to want to invent things and processes;

    2) Cross-culturalization, where multiple inventors get together and compare their inventions, and newer \ better inventions are created;

    3) Seaports or trade route intersections;

    4) Business flowing from invention / innovation;

    5) Decent Jobs flowing from business, so people can take care of their families with pride;

    6) A reasonably decent life flowing from more people having jobs; and

    7) Education encouraging the repeat of the process

    Either some force in society sets this in motion, governs the process, and maintains it, or it does not. If you leave it to chance, you might be on top for a while but you will be on top indefinitely. But that is a cost of freedom, when you do not direct people what to do with their lives.

    My suspicion is that China will be the next world power because they tell more people what to do, and they are more controlling. More free? Of course not. But more planning, organization, consistency, and coordination take place under their model. We in the U.S. use the “herding cats” model, and there are benefits and costs associated with it.

    We’ve needed more inventors for years, and few in our country have paid attention to that issue.

    I don’t understand how you can criticize Michael Moore for making this movie when he is fighting for true Democracy rather than a Corptocracy. Maybe you are part of the “richest 1%” who has 95% of the wealth, but I am not, and I applaud Michael’s efforts to expose the ridiculousness of our monetary system. Seriously, after all the conspiracy theories and “new world order” paranoia, how can you not see that the monetary system needs retooling? It’s a huge glaring control system, and it’s time we took our collective power back.

    cooperation is as necessary in nature as competition. they know this on high but leave the rest of us to dog eat dog. the gods must die when they cannot change.

  4. russell olausen Says:

    If Capitalism and Communism lack social mobility, it is increasingly irrelevant to the masses witch one prevails.People who have energy, intelligence, leadership ability and some well placed ruthlessness will most likely do well under any set of rules. I was piss broke till 47 yrs. old when opportunity and a resolve to not finish up in the gutter landed me in a luxury condo with Caddy. It may not last but it was worth the ride. Getting ahead doesn’t allow for any hand holding but for the collective good I wish you luck. The people at the top of the food chain is who you want. I would think the people at the bottom are weakening more now than those at the top.

  5. Mark Holden Says:

    I’m so sick of that quote “the top 1% earners paid more taxes than the bottom 95%”. Because the top 1% made all their money off the backs of the rest of us. People they employed, managed, etc… They made their money off the backs of poor people. So, in a way we all contributed to their wealth, so of course they have an obligation to pay more in taxes. They should pay way more than they do now.

    After reading this ultra conservative review of Michael Moore’s new movie, and it only made me want to go buy it. Sounds like Michael Moore has the right idea. We should all have the right to free health care, adequate living wages and pensions, etc… What’s wrong with that? The funny thing about capitalism is that in it’s purest form it’s slavery. With no rights. It is opposite to democracy, which calls for universal rights and all of us having a say in how things are run. And all of us should have a fair slice of the pie too. Maybe we should get to vote on who runs the corporations, the media, the banks, and not just government. Because that’s where the real power is -the banks, media, corporations. They all hugely influence the policies of the so called democratically elected governments. So, where’s the democracy?
