Meet the President of Europe

Friday, November 20th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Paul Belien - 2009-11-20

Herman Van Rompuy. Get used to the name. He is the first President of the European Union, which with the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon by all the 27 EU member states in early November was transformed into a genuine United States of Europe.

The President of Europe has not been elected; he was appointed in a secret meeting of the heads of government of the 27 EU member states. They chose one of their own. Herman Van Rompuy was the Prime Minister of Belgium. I knew him when he was just setting out, reluctantly, on his political career.

To understand Herman, one must know something about Belgium, a tiny country in Western Europe, and the prototype of the EU. Belgians do not exist as a nation. Belgium is an artificial state, constructed by the international powers in 1830 as a political compromise and experiment. The country consists of 6 million Dutch, living in Flanders, the northern half of the country, and 4 million French, living in Wallonia, the southern half. The Belgian Dutch, called Flemings, would have preferred to stay part of the Netherlands, as they were until 1830, while the Belgian French, called Walloons, would have preferred to join France. Instead, they were forced to live together in one state.

European Union gets medieval with ultra-secret elections

Friday, November 20th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Robert Bridge - 20 November, 2009

The EU is coming under fire for shunning democratic principles as candidates for top jobs assemble behind closed doors with secret societies as “selection day” approaches.

What does the ultra-secretive Bilderberger Club, Henry Kissinger, and closed-door meetings made up of anonymous politicians, bankers and industrialists have in common with transparency, democratic procedure and open societies?

If you answered ‘nothing’ you would find yourself in rather cozy company. In fact, the European Union’s secretive election process more resembles a Vatican conclave to elect a new pope than a modern experiment in democratic procedure. Indeed, the only thing the EU needs to do now is build a smokestack in Brussels so that a puff of smoke will tell us when their arcane ritual is complete (Note: a top-ranking EU official will defend the process behind the election process at the end of this article).

City of Symbols

Friday, November 20th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

While Dan Brown looks for Masonic symbolism in Washington, DC, we journey through Masonic London, on a trail that takes in Isaac Newton and Jack the Ripper, St Paul’s Cathedral and Canary Wharf, conspiracy theories and occult forces…

David Hambling - November 2009

Dan Brown’s latest novel sends symbologist Robert Langdon on a new quest. Having previously tangled with the Priory of Sion and the Illuminati, this time he’s pursuing the Freemasons; and once again he must follow a treasure trail of clues hidden in the urban landscape. Dan Brown is notorious for his loose approach to historical fact, and accuracy takes second place to keeping the plot moving. His location is Washington, DC, a city with plenty of Masonic connections. But Brown might have done better to start at the roots of Freemasonry in the City of London.

The City of London, or Square Mile, is history and mythology made concrete, going right back to the celebrated London Stone itself. [1] Settlement here dates to pre-Roman times, but the biggest influence on the City as we know it today was the rebuilding project that took place after the Great Fire of 1666. This gave London much of its present form and introduced many of its greatest monuments. Unlike the previous random sprawl, which had grown up organically over centuries, the rebuilding was carried out according to a deliberate master plan. Some claim that it was simply an attempt to build on more orderly and ‘rational’ lines, but if we peel back the surface the esoteric, Masonic and even magical aspects of the City are revealed.

New book uncovers CIA–Cold War intrigue

Friday, November 20th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

The 900-paged book, "A Terrible Mistake: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA's Secret Cold War Experiments," painstakingly explores Olson's odd death and reveals it to be a murder.

The 900-paged book, 'A Terrible Mistake: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA's Secret Cold War Experiments,' painstakingly explores Olson's odd death and reveals it to be a murder.

H.P. Albarelli Jr. - November 17, 2009

For decades now, the seemingly unrelated mysteries of Dr. Frank Olson’s strange “suicide” in New York City in 1953 and the bizarre hallucinogenic outbreak in a small French village in August 1951 have independently provoked and perplexed serious investigators. As related in countless accounts on the Internet and televised news features and documentaries for the past 35 years, Olson’s death has long been suspected to be a murder, but little was offered in the way of real evidence. Now, Frank Olson’s death can be definitively ruled a murder and the French outbreak explained as a planned military experiment gone terribly wrong. How the outbreak connects to Olson’s death is a convoluted saga of deception and intrigue.

In 1995, I began to seriously investigate the strange death of Dr. Frank Olson, a civilian biochemist at the Army’s top-secret biological warfare center. Little did I suspect that my inquiry would span over 10 years and encounter fierce opposition from varied and surprising forces. My investigation was a harsh lesson in the creed of truth finding; the Olson story has taken on near mythical proportions in some circles and had become seriously tainted with fabrications, misinformation and disinformation. Sorting through the so-called “facts” was extremely difficult. Dealing with the Manhattan district attorney’s office, which was also investigating the case and called me to New York to consult with them on my findings, was nothing less than an exercise in squaring off with subterfuge.

The Road to Copenhagen Part II: Rise of the Social Engineers

“Political unification in some sort of world government will be required (…). Even though (…) any radical eugenic policy will be for many years politically and psychologically impossible, it will be important for UNESCO to see that the eugenic problem is examined with the greatest care, and that the public mind is informed of the issues at stake so that much that now is unthinkable may at least become thinkable.” Sir Julian Huxley, UNESCO: Its Purpose and Its Philosophy

As Lord Christopher Monckton pointed out, the Copenhagen conference at the beginning of next month is designed to eliminate national sovereignty in favor of a world government to replace it. With a stroke of the pen all UN-member-states will, by doing so, throw away years of prosperity in order to satisfy the transnational needs of a global elite, hellbent on destroying the last vestiges of freedom around the world in the name of “redistributing wealth”.

Facts Behind ‘Men Who Stare at Goats’

Friday, November 20th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Lisa Pease - November 16, 2009

Can people really influence the physical world with thought alone? And if so, dare we use that power for evil, instead of good? Or will the effort come back to haunt us?

That is the quandary posed by the film “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” and, even more so, by the book of the same name that inspired the film.

First, run — do not walk, do not pass Go — to the theater to see “The Men Who Stare at Goats.” Films that are both hilarious and intelligent, provocative yet madcap, are hard to come by.

And because this film teaches us, in a wildly entertaining manner, about recent military and intelligence history, I have a feeling certain people will work hard to rush this movie right back out of the theaters. So see it before showings of it, like some of the characters in the film, disappear.

Scahill: Obama may be afraid of Blackwater

Friday, November 20th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

David Edwards and Daniel Tencer - November 11th, 2009

Despite news reports that the security contractor formerly known as Blackwater has seen its contracts dry up and its influence wane, the company continues to do brisk business in Iraq and Afghanistan — and the Obama administration may be too afraid of the firm to do anything about it, says investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill.

Researchers Develop a Facial Biometrics System Capable of Creating a Facial DNI

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M)

Recognition techniques based on facial features, known as facial biometrics, is usually based on the search for those traits which make one face different from another. The research carried out by this team, in contrast, approaches the issue from a slightly different point of view. “The difference between our work and the majority of the others that are found in this field is the idea of individualized models.”, explains one of the study’s authors, mathematician David Delgado Gomez from the UC3M Statistics Department. “Our objective”, he continued, “is to create a model for each person which highlights the most distinguishing features of each face, as a sort of facial “DNI”.

The researchers had this idea when they were imagining the situation of a crowded room where someone comes in asking for one of them. “Our way to describe a person is through some traits that the others don’t have, such as the tall woman with blue eyes, or the bald guy with a beard. We try to apply this idea to our algorithm.”, remarked Professor Delgado, who has been carrying out this research with Federico Sukno, Kaushik Pavani and Alejandro Frangi from the CISTIB Group of Universidad Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona, and Bjarne Ersboll and Jens Fagertun from the mathematical modelling group of Technical University of Denmark, which has recently published an article entitled “Similarity-based Fisherfaces”, with some of their research results appearing in the scientific journal Pattern Recognition Letters.

The Gnostic Art of Derridadaism

Friday, November 20th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

TH2 - 16 November 2009

I. DA BACKGROUNDER. Some years ago the TH2 had the mischance of tuning in to a radio station, to one of those pretentious “Arts and Culture” programs on the CBC, Canada’s Fabianist broadcaster. It was covering an interview with an artist influenced (read deceived) by the deconstructionist movement. The hour was late, the body weary, TH2 was in bed, ready to sleep and enter into his own dreams, which are very deconstructionist–like in their imagery. Though TH2 forced himself to stay awake to listen to what this person had to expound on his so–called “art”. Why? Unknown. But TH2 must confess that he is periodically mesmerized by the proponents of this movement, in their seriousness and insistence of the “truths” of this philosophical abomination that has stunted so many intellects in the last few decades.

EU Presidency candidate Herman Van Rompuy calls for new taxes

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Herman Van Rompuy, the man widely expected to be appointed the first President of Europe this week, has called for new eco-taxes and levies on the financial sector to fund a more powerful European Union.

Bruno Waterfield - 16 Nov 2009

Belgium’s prime minister made the controversial proposal, leaked to a Flemish newspaper, during a secret dinner to promote his candidacy hosted by the elite Bilderberg Group.

The comments have added to a backlash against Mr Van Rompuy who, while still the favourite, has been identified as a federalist who is being championed as part of a Franco-German “stitch up” ahead a summit dinner that will appoint an EU President in Brussels on Thursday.
