Gnostic Reflections in Freemasonry

Sunday, July 12th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Freemasonry is a system of initiation that draws its symbolism from a variety of sources and traditions. Masonic historians are quick point out some of the connections between Freemasonry and the cathedral builders, the Knights Templar, the Royal Society, Hermetic tradition, alchemists and qabbalists, however the connection between Freemasonry and the Gnostic schools is often overlooked- even though it is perhaps the most prevalent. Gnosticism is a school of thought originally developed in the ancient pagan world and championed by philosophers like Pythagoras, and later instrumental in the development of early Christianity, in which an initiate can attain a Gnosis- or direct knowledge of the divine. In fact, the word “Gnosis” means “knowledge” in Greek, and it was a divine knowledge that could be achieved through the study of nature, personal initiation, and divine revelation. As a result, schools of initiation were set up by the Gnostics in order to engage in study and initiation, and to attain connection with the path of Sophia- the Greek word for “wisdom”. In fact, this is where the word “philosophy” comes from- as it is from the Greek words “Philo”- meaning “to love”, and “Sophia”, being the goddess of wisdom. The term philosophy is believed to have been coined by Pythagoras, and some have associated Pythagoras’ school with a form of Pagan Gnosticism. Gnosticism therefore showed the connection between God and Nature, and contributed to the esoteric sciences of alchemy and sacred geometry. The “G” emphasized in Freemasonry may therefore have other implications! It has also been argued by many researchers that Gnosticism was a new label for the pagan philosophies and doctrines found in Hermeticism, which had just been rewrapped in new packaging. Indeed, Hermeticism and Gnosticism share many fundamental details, and the influence of Hermetic thought and Hermes in particular could be a whole separate article. Therefore we will just explore Gnostic connections in this article.

NSA’s power- and money-sucking datacenter buildout continues

Sunday, July 12th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

New budget docs reveal that the NSA is building a large new datacenter in Utah so that it can inhale more of your e-mail traffic. No word yet on how much it will pay for the large lidless eye wreathed in flame that will tower over the new facility.

Jon Stokes - July 6, 2009

A set of congressional budget documents reveals that the NSA plans to spend almost $1.8 billion over the next few years building a massive datacenter at Fort Williams in Utah. The docs describe the first part of a multi-phase construction project, which is slated to start next year. This first phase (PDF) involves developing infrastructure for the one million square foot center, infrastructure that includes 65MW of electrical power distribution, basic plumbing and drainage, and security and access control.

Power is apparently one of the key reasons that the NSA is looking to branch out from its massive Fort Meade facility and set up datacenters in other locations. The Salt Lake Tribune, which appears to have been first to the story, reports that there are two large power corridors that pass through Camp Williams, so the NSA will focus on hooking into those in the first phase of the project.

The Baltimore Sun ran a story in 2006, well before work started on this new facility, about the strain placed by the Fort Meade facility on Baltimore’s power grid. (The Sun link is broken, but this Slashdot link still works.) The NSA was allegedly in danger of overloading the grid, so it was taking various measures to reduce datacenter power consumption.

Design work on the new center apparently started in November 2008, according to one document, and the NSA is targeting June 2010 to actually start work on the new facility.

The Great American Bubble Machine

Sunday, July 12th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

MATT TAIBBI - Jul 02, 2009

In Rolling Stone Issue 1082-83, Matt Taibbi takes on “the Wall Street Bubble Mafia” — investment bank Goldman Sachs. The piece has generated controversy, with Goldman Sachs firing back that Taibbi’s piece is “an hysterical compilation of conspiracy theories” and a spokesman adding, “We reject the assertion that we are inflators of bubbles and profiteers in busts, and we are painfully conscious of the importance in being a force for good.” Taibbi shot back: “Goldman has its alumni pushing its views from the pulpit of the U.S. Treasury, the NYSE, the World Bank, and numerous other important posts; it also has former players fronting major TV shows. They have the ear of the president if they want it.” Here, now, are excerpts from Matt Taibbi’s piece and video of Taibbi exploring the key issues.

It’s Not Just That Global Warming Is Fake. What Matters Is Why This Fakery Is Being Promoted

Sunday, July 12th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Gary North - July 3, 2009

Global warming is based 100% on junk science. The most vocal promoters are not interested in the details of physical science. They are interested in two things: political control over the general public and the establishment of international socialism.

Ideas Have Consequences

Sunday, July 12th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Charles A. Burris - June 26, 2009

I would like to call your attention to a virtually unknown little book, Lost Literature of Socialism, by George Watson, Fellow in English at St. John’s College, Cambridge and editor of the New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature.

As the publishers explain on the back of this book: “In this hard-hitting and controversial new book, the author examines the foundation texts of socialism to find out what they really say… and the result is blasphemy against its canon of saints. This study, the first review of socialist literature since 1945, reveals how closely socialism was linked to conservative, racist, and genocidal ideas. As a literary critic the author’s concern is to pay a due respect to the works of the founding fathers of socialism, to attend to what they say rather than to what their modern disciples wish they had said. The book forces the reader to abandon long-standing assumptions in political thought, enabling a genuine debate to be revived.”

In this brilliant work examining the foundation texts of socialism, Watson provides a powerful indictment of their reactionary, racist and genocidal ideas. There is a direct line from Marx and Engels to Hitler and the Holocaust; to Lenin and Stalin and the liquidation of the Kulaks and the extermination of the Ukrainians; to Bergen-Belsen, Buchenwald and Auschwitz, and to Kolima, Vorkuta and Karaganda.

Two Candidates For Governor Weigh-In On Masonic Controversy

Fomer Gov. Roy Barnes and David Poythress Masons, both, as well as rivals for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Georgia - weigh-in on the controversy over alleged racism in their order as the head of Georgia Masonry says the charges submitted for trial to a Masonic “court” that spawned a civil court lawsuit and drew national attention to the matter are being dropped.

But the lawyer for the Atlanta lodge at the center of the firestorm says the civil suit isnt being withdrawn because its members believe there are continuing efforts on other fronts by some in the centuries-old brotherhood to punish them for admitting a black man as a member.

The story hit The APs national newswire on Tuesday and was featured in online editions of such newspapers as The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and the Los Angeles Times. It was reported locally by the AJC, and had been kicking around Masonic Internet blogs for more than a week.

The suit, which was filed in DeKalb Superior Court, seeks a restraining order against the Grand Lodge of Georgia, whose Grand Master the top official in Georgia - had referred to a Masonic trial the charges brought against Atlantas Gate City Lodge #2 by the heads of two other lodges for admitting a non-white man to the organization.

Silencing the Saber-Rattling: How the American Empire Threatens the Potential Iranian Counter-Revolution

mekPaul David Collins | 2009-07-04 - John Loftus proved to be a treasure chest of information over the Middle East during an interview with this writer on March 21, 2009. In little over an hour, the former Justice Department prosecutor and former Army intelligence officer addressed the issues of postwar Nazi activity, the September 11 attacks, and fanaticism in the Arab world. The most fascinating information Loftus shared, however, concerns Iran.

The Strange Saga of Geronimo’s Skull

Monday, July 6th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

A century after his death, the Apache leader’s remains continue to make news:

David Miller agrees that the Bonesmen probably did some grave-digging that night. But in a paper he has delivered at several venues, the retired history professor argues that the facts of the supposed SKB theft just don’t add up, for several reasons.

Geronimo’s grave wasn’t a tomb guarded by an iron door, as the SKB document says. In fact, he was buried beneath a simple Army-issue wooden headstone in the Apache cemetery three miles east of the main post.

In the early 1900s, getting to this cemetery meant crossing remote, often flooded land, with the access bridge frequently out. However, Sill’s original post cemetery was close to the quadrangle, parade grounds and barracks where the young soldiers stayed.

“My suspicion is that Bush and the others dug in the old post cemetery,” Miller, who taught for 37 years at Oklahoma’s Cameron University, says. “There’s a structure in that cemetery with an iron door, like the one described. Even if they wanted to dig up Geronimo, I don’t think the Bonesmen would’ve had any idea where his grave was.”

Whether or not Skull and Bones has Geronimo’s skull; the point is they thought it was, and hence they are still crooks and grave robbers!

Decoding Scheuer’s Call for Osama to Kill More Americans

Monday, July 6th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

“War on Terror” advocates want civilians to die to justify “War on Terror”

James Corbett
The Corbett Report
6 July, 2009

CIA analyst Michael Scheuer’s recent call for bin Laden to kill more Americans would be shocking if we hadn’t already heard it dozens of times before from other “War on Terror” advocates. “It’s an absurd situation,” Scheuer told FOX News personality Glenn Beck on his program last week. “Only Osama can execute an attack that will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.”

The comments have provoked much shock and outrage among pundits and websites like Jon Stewart and NewsHounds who may have considered him to be on their side. After all, he seemed to be a vociferous and effective critic of the neocons, having authored books like Imperial Hubris and having supported Ron Paul during the 2008 Presidential debates by asserting that 9/11 was merely blowback for American interventionism in the Middle East. With his latest comments, Scheuer is now relegated to the ignoble company of neocon shills like Stu Bykofsky of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who dreamed of another terrorist attack back in 2007 to rally people around the flag (and, presumably, George W. Bush) once again; Donald Rumsfeld, who complained in 2006 that the Bush regime was a victim of its own success in the “War on Terror” and that another terrorist attack was needed to remind people that the war was still necessary; and indeed the entire neocon establishment, who in their 2000 white paper Rebuilding America’s Defenses called for “a catalyzing event like a new Pearl Harbor” to mobilize the public to get behind their goal of projecting American military influence around the globe for another century. Despite his surprisingly unhelpful attempt to clarify his remarks, Scheuer is now—like all of those who have said that terrorism is needed to bring about political support for their idea—a terrorist himself by very definition.

Georgia freemasons at loggerheads over admission of black man to lodge

Monday, July 6th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Chris McGreal - 3 July 2009

There is much about Freemasonry that remains shrouded in mystery to the outside world. But a group of members in the US state of Georgia appear to have clarified one thing - the supreme being in which all Masons are required to believe is not likely to be black.

Freemasonry lodges in Georgia are at loggerheads over the admission of a “non-white” member to an organisation that was founded on the principles of the Enlightenment but which is apparently still struggling to catch up with the latter part of the 20th century.

Now the issue is headed for a Masonic trial and the state courts after some lodges in Georgia sought to revoke the charter of one in Atlanta for admitting Victor Marshall, a 26-year-old African-American army reservist, last autumn.

The Socialization of America

Monday, July 6th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Dr. David Noebel - March 27, 2009

In retrospect, we might discover that 1883 was a most significant year. We’re familiar with 1848 giving us The Communist Manifesto and 1859 giving us The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. But 1883 gave us three portentous happenings. These seemingly unrelated happenings turned history toward socialism.

1. Karl Marx died on March 14, 1883, and was buried in Highgate Cemetery in London, England. The assumption that Communism died with him was logical since only six people attended his funeral. But the truth is that it had not yet begun its murderous journey through the 20th century.

2. John Maynard Keynes was born on June 5, 1883, in Cambridge, England. His political, economic, and moral influence continues to affect every American.

3. The Fabian Socialist Society was an offshoot of The Fellowship of the New Life, which was born in October 1883 in London, England.

Today’s financial events illustrate that America is not exempt from being led toward socialism. Predictions differ, depending on one’s perspective, as to whether this will be a socialistic paradise or a socialistic hell. Time will tell. In the meantime, we’d do well to listen to warnings from the past.

The Occultic Wizard of Oz

Monday, July 6th, 2009 - by Terry Melanson

Dennis L. Cuddy - June 29, 2009

In one of my recent columns, I referred to President Obama speaking at the University of Notre Dame. People were surprised that a Catholic university would give an honorary degree to a president who supports the right of women violently to kill their preborn babies by abortion. However, one must remember that the University’s former head, Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, was head of the population-controlling Rockefeller Foundation for a number of years in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Fidelity editor E. Michael Jones said he met Prof. Sam Shapiro of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, on July 4, 1984, and that Shapiro’s wife who taught at Indiana University South Bend, was a strong supporter of abortion-rights. Jones also related that Shapiro told him of his concern that Prof. Gloria Kaufman, Shapiro’s wife, had “demonic energy” and was a witch.

On ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (June 4, 2009), actress Heather Graham (reared as a traditional conservative Catholic when she was a girl) told Kimmel she and some friends recently had been engaged in witchcraft, casting spells to elect Obama as President among other things. Her long blonde hair and manner reminded me of Billie Burke who played Glinda, the supposedly “good witch” in the movie The Wizard of Oz in 1939.
