I can't believe you guys made our founding fathers out to be a bunch of crooks! Oh yeah YOU CAN'T GET HIGH OFF OF HEMP! AND TO GO AS FAR AS CALLING TOBACCO A DRUG THAT THEY GREW! GET REAL! I no longer trust anything that comes from the history channel. Talk about propaganda at its worst, quit trying to destroy state sovereignty, why do you want to destroy the constitution?

You can't get high off of hemp, which typically has less than one percent thc. Marijuana grown for smoking - utilizing only the female sex and taking it all the way through the flowering stage - has up to and over 20 percent. Either they grew it for fiber or they grew it to smoke. I doubt they did both.

Further, smoking pot, hash and oil, was only common in India and the mid east back then, mainly as a sort of sacrament. All that they knew about marijuana in the west was the long tradition of hemp production. Perhaps they used hemp oil extract for medicinal uses, but I can't say for sure.

Shame on the History Channel.. Nothing about this program was factual or responsible. This was soley based on "60's hippies" lies in an attempt to discredit our founding fathers and the Decloration.

PATRICK - YOUR AN IDIOT.... If our founding fathers saw hemp as ok to "smoke" it would have been documented back then and you would have fact to hang your hat on.. For you to ASSUME ( in your case WISH) they smoked it based AGAIN on speculation becuase it was simply arround is STUPID... Based on YOUR logic, we can all assume that just becasue in today's society that cocaine is widley used, homosexuality is promoted and prostitution is rampid that YOU MUST HAVE participated in all the above..

Patrick says it all
Most of the facts that came out on the history channel I had already read some time ago but yes its obvious the founding fathers were avid smokers and drinkers, one thing the history channel did not mention is that at one time our government had plans to never cut down a tree again because one acre of hemp yields what 5 acres of large trees can produce and yes the hemp plant is used to make canvas rope uniforms boots paper what the hell is wrong the idiots that have made it illegal... I dunno I have another thought what if the "fruit" that eve ate was from marijuana I mean think about it, first of it was a plant intriguing to the eye so of all the plants that yield something good for food (see marijuana and cooking at http://cookingwithmarijuana.com/ ) dont you think a nice healthy sparkling red orange green and purple plant with thick broad leaves would be very appealing for those of you thinking thats crazy who would eat buds off a plant have either A-never smoked and enjoyed some really good dro or B- are ignorant to th fact that we are talking about the first two people on earth and that in itself contsitutes enough reason to see them plucking off buds and eating plain aside from the fact that the bud is the fruit of the plant and with so many books and stories from the bible open to be interupted by the reader as it is full of metaphors and not always so literal then why cant the first one be the same with that said you need to take into mind that whatever the plant was it was mind altering it had to change their state of mind some how now some of you are saying that god destroyed the tree but there were two trees a tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil any way that just some food for thought

Hey Melinda, Pull your head out of the sand. It is called "physical evidence". Historians for years have found and still finding under the ground, in books, in historical homes, etc., that this stuff went on. They can now do soil analysis that proves hemp was grown in areas. They actually still have revolutionary war uniforms that IS hemp. The ships ropes were made of hemp back then. You think they didn't smoke it? They were smart enough to do all that but no one took a big deep breath when the plants on accident or on purpose caught on fire? Come on, get real! They smoked Tobacco but not pot? The fact that the uniforms, rope, books made of hemp prove that hemp was grown. What do you think is more likely: They grew, used, smoked pot OR that when christian run schools and historians wrote and taught history they eliminated those facts to make the founders look better? I am sure you believe Clinton didn't inhale either! LOL Oh and NO the founding fathers did NOT build this Country for Christians either. They built it for everyone! The History books from the 30's to 1990's are sensationalizing, not the TV show. Hate to burst your bubble.

Wow. If you don't have facts then make them up as you go. This should be named "Secrets we think the founding Fathers had". What a joke. I'm so disappointed in the History Channel for showing this. Founding Fathers on "mood altering drugs". Talk about sensationalizing history and rewriting it to promote an agenda.

It's a powerful leaker that spells GOP. Investigate the 10 acres and a mule vs. 40 acres. Which was which and isn't community village more beneficial than all this hate? Thanks!

I think the Freemasons are fakers, and have been faking for quite some time. I have studied 18th century European history in depth and I can tell you, as a fact, that they made up stuff, wholesale, for the benefit of gaining initiates while feigning an ancient pedigree. They know about as much about the so-called "ancient mysteries" as Bob and Doug Mackenzie know about the manufacture and sale of Molson Canadian Ale.

The history of Freemasonry is the history of one con after another: from Ramsey to Clermont to Johnston to von Hund to Cagliostro to Knigge to Weishaupt to Pasquale to Saint-Martin to Savalette de Langes to Karl von Hesen Kassel to Mesmer to Crowley to the OTO and the Golden Dawn - all a bunch of wannabes.

Leave it to the History Channel to put its own wickedly evil spin on the Freemasons.

They began in ancient Egypt, not Scotland, and have endured to this day.

The rest can be found in books from Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas and our very own Dan Brown.

For starters.
